Your Hosts
The lodge at Ekker Island, established in 2001, is run by Ingjerd Tjelle along with her husband Trond Magne Henriksen. The lodge is primarily Ingjerd's brainchild, born from inspiration drawn from the women at Hermetikken collective, curiosity in meeting others, and a passion for communication. The idea was to create a blend of tourism and communication—a perfect match!
Communication has always been an essential part of Ingjerd's life and work, having been a former journalist and spending several decades as an author and communicator. In her work, she has particularly focused on shedding light on untold stories. She is dedicated to narrating tales from the past, especially from Finnmark, and has written several books about boarding school children, orphanage children, folk healers, powerful forces, and other stories about lived life in our northernmost county. Be sure to check out her guided tour of the island while you’re here.
In 2024, Veronica Kennelly Beijer joined the team. After finishing her degree in tourism, she moved to Mongolia and worked as a lodge manager at Yeruu Lodge. When she returned to Scandinavia, new adventures awaited her, and she fell completely in love with Finnmark and Varanger. Veronica loves being outdoors, so feel free to ask her for tips on hikes or similar activities.
We’re looking forward to seeing you! At Ekker Island, guests have the opportunity to experience the best of Arctic nature and tranquility.

Getting Here
By Car
After driving through the town of Vadsø, follow the E75 for another 15 minutes. Then, turn right onto Road 321 and follow the signs to the lodge. It will only take a few minutes to reach us from the main road. You can find directions through Google Maps here.
We are located at three addresses on Ekkerøy. Our reception's address is Østre Nesset 8B, 9804 Vadsø. This is also the address of our Bird View Apartments. Emeliehuset is located at Østre Nesset 8A, and our two Sea Apartments are located at Vestre Valen 45.
By Air
If you arrive by plane, you have two options. You can either fly with Widerøe to Vadsø Airport, either via Tromsø or Kirkenes. Vadsø Airport is located only 10 minutes away from our lodge. Just follow the E75 road, turn right onto Road 321, and follow the signs. At Vadsø Airport, you can rent a car or we can arrange a transfer for you.
The other option is to fly to Kirkenes and take the scenic 2½-hour drive around the Varangerfjord to Ekkerøy. Both SAS and Norwegian have several direct flights daily from Oslo. At Kirkenes Airport, you can rent a car, or we can help you arrange a transfer to the lodge.
