Highlights in Vardø
Get to know Varanger’s history and nature with Kate Johanne Utsi from Njalla Siida. A full day of nature, culture, and history awaits!
The tour begins at Vardø harbor (approximately a 45-minute drive from Ekkerøy) with a ferry ride to Hornøya. This is the easternmost point in Norway, further north than Nome, Alaska, and further east than Istanbul and Cairo.
Available during the spring and summer months.
Contact post@ekkerisland.com for more information and booking.
Hornøya is the last piece of Norwegian land stretching out towards the vast Barents Sea, one of Europe’s wildest and most extreme locations. It is also home to over 80,000 nesting seabirds and is one of Varanger’s top natural attractions. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some orcas off the coast!
Afterwards, we take the ferry back to the mainland and have lunch at Vardø Hotel. Following lunch, we will enjoy a guided tour of the small town, including a visit to Vardøhus Fortress, built in the 14th century. You will also visit the Witch Monument, commemorating the 91 victims of the witch trials in the 17th century.
This tour is available from May to August.
Maximum: 7 people, minimum 4
Not included: Lunch at Vardø Hotel
